My horses are real well trained, and excellent trail horses for me and my husband, but there has been a time or two on the trails we needed to ground tie them, and I would like to know the easiest way to teach them.

  1. I found the easiest way to teach them is with a set of hobbles.  First in the stall so they get used to them and then outside with the reins down.  It only took a few days for them to figure it out.  Hope this helps with your horses.

  2. I start by practicing at home while you do things around your horse.  I will first start by brushing them with out being tied, then going a short distance away and coming back.  Start small and with you only walking away small distances, make sure at first your horse cannot run away and get hurt.  Like be in the barn or in the ring with door and gates shut so he cannot get too far away.  Reward him with a treat or something when you return.  That way he has something to look forward to.
