  1. Never Eat Soggy Waffles!!! Go in the direction of a clock.

  2. Never Eat Soggy Waffles. Once i heard that, i never forgot again the compass directions.

    or,

    Never Eat Soggy Worms.

  3. Never Eat Soggy Worms was what my 2nd grade teacher said. Funny thing is that we read "How to Eat Fried Worms" just a week earlier.

  4. Never Eat Soggy Wheaties!!!!

  5. Ev'ry day the shining sun,

    Rising in the EAST,

    Brings its light to land and sea,

    Brings its light to you and me,

    Wakens bird and beast.

    Right hand out, now let it stay,

    Pointing EAST, this is the way;

    Right hand out, now let it stay,

    Pointing EAST, this is the way.

    Ev'ry night the setting sun,

    Sinking in the WEST,

    Takes its light from land and sea,

    Takes it, too, from you and me,

    Brings the time for rest.

    Left hand out, now let it stay,

    Pointing WEST, this is the way;

    Left hand out, now let it stay,

    Pointing WEST, this is the way.

    Pointing EAST and pointing WEST,

    Straight ahead we'll find,

    NORTH before us as we stand,

    EAST and WEST on either hand,

    And the SOUTH behind.

    Pointing EAST and WEST we'll find,

    NORTH in front, and SOUTH behind;

    Pointing EAST and WEST we'll find,

    NORTH in front, and SOUTH behind.

  6. I do this myself. In the morning, the sun is rising in the east, so if I face the east, I know the west is behind me, and the north is to my left, the south is on my right. Or if youre just trying to get him/her to understand the concept, get out a map of the US and just drill it in.

  7. Make a song and a dance out of it.  Jump to North, than jump to the South than West and East.

  8. Just tell your kid:

    Santa lives in the north pole, so he has to go from the north to south (downwards) to give us all presents

    and for west and east:

    it is spelled We, not Ew...like

       n                                            n

    w   e          and its not          e    w

       s                                            s

    get it????

  9. My mother would use a wooden spoon when we had trouble learning concepts.  Worked for us, I have a Ph.D.
