How do I teach myself guitar? (Read description)?

I took guitar lesson about 6 months ago for about 2 months. My guitar teacher didn't really teach me the things that I wanted to know. I want to learn merely chords on the guitar, so that I can use them in the songs that I write. I am not looking for any guitar books. Can you please just give me some chord learning sites?

Thanks!

  1. The holy grail of learning guitar the quick and dirty way:

    The power chord.

Here an A power chord.  x means you don't play that string (so you see that it only uses 3 strings), and the number means you play that fret on that string.

    E| x

    B| x

    G| x

    D| 7

    A| 7

    E| 5

Keeping that same hand position, you can move the chord all over the fretboard.  Here's a simple I-IV-IV-V chord progression in G (they may not line up perfectly):

    E| x---x---x----x---|

    B| x---x---x----x---|

    G| x---5---9---7---|

    D| 5---5---9---7---|

    A| 5---3---7---5---|

    E| 3---x---x----x---|

  2. I taught myself guitar early last year using online tutorials (which teach you really basic stuff like the most common chords used in popular music, the rhythms and stuff, which you probably already know already). This is the website I used:

    http://guitar.about.com/library/blguitar...

That website also has a chart of ALL the chords and how to read them, where to put your fingers for each one and so on. After you know all of them, you can go to this website:

    www.chordie.com

which basically has the tabs and chords for EVERY song you can think of. It is so so useful and you'll have so much fun playing songs!
