How do I tell if my S Video connection is working? I want to pt videos from my video camera onto my computer?

when I connect with the S video cord from the camera to the computer, nothing happens....what am I doing wrong?

  1. The S-video port on your computer is OUT only - not in or two way.

    If your camcorder is:

    MiniDV tape based, use a firewire (IEEE1394a, i.Link) between the DV port of your camera to the firewire port of your computer. USB will not work. USB is for transferring stills, only.

    Hard drive based, use USB. Treat flash based cameras the same way.

    DVD based, rip the video using something like HandBrake if you computer has a drawer loading DVD drive. If not, treat it as analog...

    Analog cams (like VHS and VHS-C) need the AV cable you use when you connect to a TV... and you will also need an Analog/Digital bridge like the Pinnacle Dazzle or any of the converters from Canopus.

    Actually a still camera that happens to take highly compressed videos, take the memory card out and use a card reader.
