  1. We used to raise all kinds of birds, but it has been years. The difference was the nostril (nose) holes. The males,I believe we bigger.

  2. The brighter colored ones are males. The dull colored ones are females.

  3. Males have taller crests than females.

  4. have it DNA tested.

  5. the only for sure way is to go to a vet and have its dna tested.

but if you dont have the extra money to do that, then i suggest you just pay attention to its personality.

males are very loud!  they love to imitate sounds they hear all the time, and will even try to imitate a person talking (thats what my male did before i taught him to whistle).

females are much quieter although there have been a couple of gifted females who learned to talk and whistle.  and they can be very affectionate.  my female loves to hang out on my shoulder, and she loves to be pet on her neck.  my male doesnt really like to be touched..

    i hope this helped :)

  6. I have 2 cockatiels... one has a really dark colored beak and the other one is light colored...I think the dark beak cockatiel may be a female because sometimes she will sit in the corner and make some funny noises, and she acts like she may be laying an egg(although i have never seen one)  My other cocatiel is very loud all the time, never shuts up(MUST BE A MALE...LOL) and he doesnt make those weird noises like he is laying an egg....

  7. usually if you got your cockatiel from a breeder they will tell you its gender. Males are often more talkative and tend to be louder than females.
