Question:

How do I tell my massage therapist I'm switching?

My massage therapist is great, but I've decided to switch to someone closer to my home with a slightly lower rate.

The problem is, although we're not close, I do consider her my friend to a degree, and I want to tell her in a way that will not hurt her feelings, or at least minimize the damage...

She's calling me back tomorrow regarding my appointment and I don't want to just avoid her calls and not call back, I'd like to end on good terms in case I change my mind or so that we can still be friends if she does consider me that way too.

How would you recommend saying it?

I posted this question already but I'm really looking for advice on how to phrase it or say it.

Thanks!

  1. say you really helped me alot but im going to try going to someone else who my friend recommended but i won't hesitate coming back because i will if i have a problem

  2. Tell them, "I would like to let you know that this Saturday is going to be my last appointment for a while. I have found another Therapist whose office is closer to my home and who is fitting within my budget constraints. I really would like to thank you for your expertise and I hope that we can stay friendly since over the time you have become someone I can trust. "

  3. Don't answer the phone and don't go back to her.  She will the point eventually.  It's purely a business relationship so don't worry about it.

  4. If it was me I would use one of these options, depending on the individual circumstances:

"Hi! I'm REALLY sorry but I'm going to have to put my appointments on hold for a while...what with the credit crunch and everything! It's just, my gas bill came today and it was a bit steep, I think I need to cut down on luxuries!"

"Hi, I'm sorry but I don't know when I'll be able to fit in another appointment. I'm so busy at work, someone has been off sick and I've been covering all their jobs!" (Add in that you wish you were getting paid more, just to cover your back incase she thinks you're now minted lol)

"Hi, I think I better give my appointments a miss for a while. It's about time I started saving for Christmas, hopefully I should be able to pick them up again after the New Year!" (after new year use the credit crunch excuse lol)

"Hi, my car has broken down and the repairs are a fortune! I really don't think I can afford my appointments for a while. I'm really gutted though!"
