How do I tell my mom I want to be an actress?

I know its hard, and only so few actually make it. I've got some experience, and know all the details about resumes, headshots, and things. The only thing I don't know is how to tell my mom I'm done with school\community theater, and try auditioning for more major auditions. Right now I think I'm just going to flat out tell her, but I don't want to. Please help and if you're just going to say something like don't even try, you won't make it. Don't even answer this question then. Thanks to all you serious answers users.

  1. Stay far enough away to be out of arms reach, and that large Spaghetti sauce, stirring spoon.

In your THUMBS down I find it strange you don't see some validity? I wish you well, but get in line. Oh, regarding the sauce,,, TRUTH is so often, so difficult to digest

  2. The way to tell her is to open your mouth, then form and express the words "Mom, I want to be an actress". There is no room anger or negative reactions.  What you want is what you want, whether or not it is achievable, and there is only one way to find out if it is.

  3. "Mom i'm going to become an actress"

  4. "Hey Mom.. I want to try and become an actress!"

  5. How does she not know already? If you're the person that loves it so much, it should be beaming out your ***. Everyone should know you want to be an actress.

         TELL THE WORLD SWEET CHILD!!

  6. Sit down with her and say " I have a passion for acting"

and "I think I would like to make it a carrer"

  7. Act it out.   Write a script for yourself, replete with director's notes regarding facial expressions, body language, verbal emotion, etc., and then go to her and deliver it in a full-on, raging thespian style.    Don't be afraid to over-act in this particular situation.

When she reacts as if she's blown away by your emotion, and asks "Are you SERIOUS?", you reply "Acting!" and she'll say "BRRRRILLIANT!"   (and if you've never seen Jon Lovitt on SNL, that won't make a l**k of sense).

Anyway, then you reply "Actually, I'm NOT acting, I'm quite serious!".

Oh, waitaminnit... you wanted a serious answer?   Well, I personally think you should stay in school.   You may be a good actor already, but when a movie or TV producer is looking for an important character, and they are considering two people who have equally good acting skills, the one with more education is likely to prevail.

Also, considering the emotional and mental stresses involved in the industry, it would seem wise to wait until you are a bit older and perhaps better prepared to handle rejection or the rigors of working as an actor.

  8. I really think you should tell her!!  and if she says "you wont make it" don't listen if its something you truly want... go for it and  do not give up !!!! trust me i gave up because i have nooo support what so ever!but i still wonder if i have a Chance and you have experience so go for it!!!!and don't give up!!!I know it sounds kind of cheesy but its how i feel about this subject!=(

  9. sit down with her and tell her that you want to be an actress, you'll work for it and you know how hard it is to make it, but that you know you can make it with her support. Also if she's worried about money.. in acting everything is supposed to be free.

  10. "Mom, I want to be an actress"

  11. Just tell her you want to audition for a professional show to see how you like it. You don't need to make a huge production out of it. You may even get into the professional world and discover that once it stops being a hobby and starts being a job you hate it; this happens to many. One professional acting credit doesn't necessarily mean you're throwing away any other possible dreams you may have.

  12. Sweetie, it is your life. WIth your mom being your mom she will accept you for who you are and what you want to do and be.  Just sit her down at dinner and talk to her. Eventually she will understand.
