How do I tell my parents I want to move out?

I'm almost 19, and in my 3rd semester of college. I'm financially responsible for myself, and work full time. I'm currently living with my parents and paying rent (minimal, but still). My parents constantly talk about how hard it is to support my two step-sisters and I, and explain that that's why I have to pay rent. My parents don't pay for anything of mine. I'm rarely home between school and work, and so my parents often get mad at me for "not contributing enough to the house". I have a big loud family, but I'm a quiet, non-confrontational person. I'm so sick of listening to fighting in the house daily. Also, my parents just decided that I'm not allowed out on school nights anymore (how old am I?!). Two of my friends are looking for a roommate, because their third roommate just moved out. I would be able to afford the rent. Here's a problem though: it's a one bedroom apartment, and I'd be sharing it with two guys. I'd most likely be sleeping on a couch. I know that doesn't sound like the best situation, but they're both really good friends and I'm not worried about it. The thing is though, I'm just under so much emotional stress at home, that I know I'd be happier in the roommate situation. So here's the problem: How do I tell my parents I want to move out, and how do I tell them I'm going to be sharing a one bedroom apartment with two guys?

  1. pack your bags and sit them at the door then tell your parents you want to go out and experience the world for yourself, tell them you have already found a place to live with your friends

  2. just sit them down &+ explain to them that u're under alot of pressure &+ stress with school &+ work &+ them always arguing &+ you want to move out so you can focus on ur studies ; if they don't understand i don't know what to say ;

    good luckk tho

  3. You may want to think long and hard about this, one bedroom and three people doesn't sound to good.  Have you checked the board where you go to get dorm room?  There is a board at most colleges with people looking for room mates, i would try there first or look in the paper for ads.  My niece did something like this and she only lasted 2 months because the two guys always had their friends there and where do people hang...the living room.  I would think twice before commiting to this.

  4. You are a legal and psychological adult. They need to realize that and it's now or never. Just tell them in a calm way, don't make it a big deal. Try to be casual and not pick any fights. Listen to their arguments, try to reason it out with them, but remember, through it all, that ulimately, it is YOUR decision, not theirs.
