How do I tell the difference between a Tenor and Alto Saxaphone. Do they look the same?

  1. a tenor is about a foot longer in all

    they are a deeper, usually more rounded note (depends on the player to some extent)

    and they're in a different key.

    an Alto normally has an almost 90 degree bend at the neck, whereas the top of the tenor has a rounded curve beteween the mouthpiece and the keys

    i find that my tenor gets me more women  ;)


  2. The differences between the two are:

    the tenor sax has a lower register than the alto. it has a deeper sound.

    alto saxes are smaller

    tenor saxes have a curl in the neck of the instrument before the mouthpiece, like a fish hook or a loop. a good example is lisa's sax in the simpsons, look for the hook shaped neck.

  3. tenor is bigger more expensive and makes a deeper noise, they don't look the same

  4. you will definately be able to tell they arent the same...

    alto is smaller, tenor is bigger
