How do I test if my Memorex drive can read DVD+R discs?

My Memorex Drive reads discs with a "DVD-video" format just fine. But it doesn't seem to recognize discs with a "DVD+R" format. Either doesn't recognize them at all, or thinks they are audio (CD) discs.

  1. well that means it can't read them. you basically have your question answered in the info part.

  2. Hi Tennis Fan,

It probably won't read +R. Look on the front of the drive door. Usually it will say "DVD +/-R" if it reads both types or simply  DVD-R if it just reads dash R media.

It is unusual for a drive unless it is very old not to use either -R or +R. but because the DVD-R format has been in use since 1997, it has had a five-year lead on DVD+R. As a result older or cheaper DVD players (up to 2004 vintage) are more likely to favor the DVD-R standard exclusively.
