  1. The non-silvery, copper color is one easy test.  Assuming you have some that you can disfigure or destroy, see if it bubbles in HCl.  If it doesn't react with HCl, but it does react with HNO3 to give a blue solution, then there is a 99.5 percent probability that it is copper.
