Question:

How do I thank people for money?

I read the answers to the other two questions which asked how to thank people for money, however my husband and I are already established in our home and will be using the money to repair our roof. Is it terrible to say so?

For example:

Thank you for your generous gift which will aid in repairing the roof of our home.

We hope you enjoyed the wedding and we'll see you soon.

Can I sign 'sincerely'? Or is 'love' better?

TIA

  1. It's probably best to say as little as possible about what you will use it for. It was given freely and you don't need to justify its use.

    Simply say something like:

Thank you for your generous gift. We appreciate your support and hope you enjoyed the wedding. Thank you for being there to celebrate with us.

    Sincerely,

    (you and your spouse)

  2. I don't think it's terrible at all.  You are using the money for a good reason, and the people who gave it to you will know that the money was needed.

Sincerely is best, so that you don't make people feel uncomfortable.

  3. "Thank you for your generous gift"

    You can always write Love

  4. You don't have to say what you are using the money for, but if you feel more comfortable explaining it I think your wording is fine.

I would sign it love, your name and his. Sincerely seems too formal for a personal thank you.

  5. When I send a thank you card for a monetary gift, I just write;

'Thank you for your generous gift. It will be put to good use.'

I don't mention how much they gave, and you don't have to tell them what you are going to use it for. Once it is given, it's non of their business.

  6. I would go with a more general thank you, but if you are close with someone you are writing to, you could include that nonchalantly. I would try something like this:

    General:

We would like to thank you for your generous gift and for helping us celebrate our wedding. We were very happy to have you share such a special day with us and we hope to see you soon.

    Personal (Aunt, Uncle, etc.):

We would like to thank you very much for your generous gift. We will be using it towards repairing our roof. Thank you for sharing such a special day with us. We love you and hope to see you soon.

I wouldn't write the dollar amount of how much they gave you. It's tacky and usually makes people uncomfortable. And I would definately use the word "love" instead of "sincerely". It is more heartfelt and appropriate.

  7. The way you sign your note should reflect how well you know the people who gave you the money. If it was an aunt who came to your house for dinner once a week while you were growing up, choose love. If it is an aunt that you have only seen at weddings, funerals etc, then sincerely would be more approriate.

  8. i would use the word love... if it's someone close to you!

and you don't need to tell them what your using the gift for!  TMI (too much info)

just say Thank you for your gift of $??.?? this will help us in the future!  We hope you had a GREAT time at on our special day!

    love

    Your name!
