How do I tie a tetherball rope to a tetherball pole.?

I mean like how.I have that circle nail in the pole,but not know exactly how to tie it and also if i have extra rope,do i cut it off?

Just tie it in a knot good enough it wont come off.

If you have a couple inches extra you can clip it off if it bothers you but it wont hurt anything to leave it..
