  1. just ask for change.....its a very common practice

  2. ask your server/bartender to "break" the bill for you.  He or she will be well aware that tipping is the reason for the request and will gladly give you a ten, a five, and five ones in exchange for the larger bill. FYI: if you pay for one drink at a time, it's appropriate to tip after receiving each drink.

  3. Ask for change!!!

  4. Ask for change, they know that is why you want change, to leave a tip. Sometimes I put a five or ten separately so then I don't have to worry about asking for change, that way I am prepared!

  5. "ASK FOR CHANGE"!

  6. your change

  7. if you are paying the server for your bar-tab, a good server will return with your change (including smaller bills suitable for tipping). If the server gives you only larger bills in your change politely and discretely ask the server if he is new, his reply will almost always be yes in this situation. At that point, politely let him know that he is doing himself a disservice by not leaving you with appropriate bills for tipping.

  8. leave a 20 its nice to leave a big tip

  9. I was a server for years and I agree that the method of just telling them is nice. I have often had customers say "And take $5 for yourself" or whatever, and it avoids the confusion.

A lot of people don't realize that it is awkward for both parties involved. The best way is to be clear and polite. Also, it always helps when you compliment the service when it is due.

  10. Sometimes what I do is tell them how much to bring me back from what I give them for the bill. They automatically know that they need to take the difference for their tip. That way not only do they not have to collect it from the table later, they know how much you appreciated their service! Hope this helps!!

  11. Since there is no server in the world that wants to be stiffed just ask them to break the bill for you (I'm a server paying my way through college) They won't get mad it's not an inconvenience. They will be more than willing because its how they make their money
