How do I to download video from a camcorder to a computer?

I borrowed a canon elura 60 my friend and my computer isn't reading the camera when I plugged it in through the USB port and I was wondering why. I've attempted to download software from the canon website, but it isn't the right software. Can anyone help me?

I am having the same problem with my camcorder. However, I believe I know the answer: you need an i.Link cord, which allows you to transfer video from camcorder to computer. I myself need to buy one. Now, I think it depends what kind of computer you have. The i.Link cord MAY not fit into your computer. I'm not sure if there are different kinds of i.Link cords, but you need to research it. Also, research the different prices from different stores, as the price ranges range greatly!
