How do I train for cross country?

I want to go out for my cross country team this august (it will be my junior year). I've been running lightly for the past year and a half, but am no where near in shape for it. Basically any advice on how to train would be really appreciated.

  1. alright...im on a xc team in nj...i will be a senior and each summer i run 500 miles in about 10 weeks...yes this is a little intense i know and you dont have to run this much...but the point is that you have to run a lot...i usually run twice a day in the summer...just get a loty of mileige this summer and you will be ready to go in the fall...once you are getting in decent shape then start doing your runs faster...i start my 500 miles tomorrow =]....good luck !

  2. Many of my friends do cross-country and all Ive heard them do is just run consistently. They also do other sports such as soccer, swimming, and they also bike. I hope this helped in any way! And good luck with getting on the team!

  3. I run cross country and we lift weights to strengthen our arms and legs for practice. sprinting can definately help your endurance. Our coach made us run up a huge hill sprinting. We work out as a team the summer before so we can be ready. Doing some crunches helps also, your abs help you to run, your arms need to be strong to keep them moving which helps you to run more efficiently. Good luck.

  4. xc is a pretty hard sport i'm on my third year doing it and if you dont do what your supposed to its even harder and muchhhh less enjoyable you should probably start off light since you havnt been running much and then work your way up to longer distances you should also do some hill training a few times a week(2-3) once you get your strength and also some core training that can really lower your times. good luck on your season!

  5. yea just staart off with two miles gradually builld up tehn wen u get in shape then start timing yourself try to get up to 5 mile a day and you'll have a great chance of making the team.

  6. You should probably contact Jen for some good advice and other services.

I hear she used to work in the Twin Towers, but she's had to relocate, obviously.
