How do I train my old dog?

I have a 9 year old teacup poodle, and sometimes I really think that she has mental problems or something. She never can walk straight on a leash, she always gets tangled up around posts and between our legs. And not long ago a motorcycle passed by and my dog ran right out on the road and started barking at it (she almost caused an accident!!! lol) Also, she's really aggressive and she always barks and attacks people (it's really embarrassing) I know we would've trained her when she was young, but is there anything we can do now?

  1. first of all when shes aggressive don't yell at her. scolding is bad. if shes barking and attacking people, start out in a backyard, practice walking back and forth, if she disobeys on the leash, stop walking and start walking towards the house. then she'll think that the walk is over, she'll start obeying (she should) and when she does, say stop, when you say stop to her she starts incorporating stop with obeying and treats.  if you keep doing that she'll begin to notice that when she is calm on the leash, she will get attention. start adding people one by one every other day when she is practicing walking on the leash. keep using the command stop. and if she tries to attack the cars on the street, take advantage of the sounds from your surroundings, and record them and play the street noises to your dog, when she's listening to the street noises and she hears a car say BACK, quickly give her a treat (stop the recorder) and say back again. and so on and so on.  when you hear a real car, on your walks, say back and if she comes back, which she should, give her some treats and move on.

  2. you can get harnesess for dogs wich either go around there chest or ones which look like mussells, wen your dog pulls it will tighten so makes them stop. they really work i had the same problem. and wen your dog is being agresive just pull him bk nd stand still till your dog is calm. also praise for good behaviour.

  3. "You can't teach an old dog new tricks" is a myth.  You can train your dog.  Your best bet may be to go to some beginner obedience classes where someone can work with you and your dog on your interaction so you can learn how to work with this behavior.  You can definitely do something about it!  BTW, 9 isn't so old for a small poodle.  So go and have fun learning something new!

  4. Get a new dog. Teacup poodles are just small dumb dogs.

  5. Cat and Jo has the right answer. Get a hold of a trainer for your dog...but remember patience is a virtue. Lots of luck

  6. Its going to be hard to train a dog at an old age. It will take time and A LOT of work because it is used to its old habits.

  7. push her butt down and say sit then repeat it again and again for lie, make it lie and say lie and repeat it again and again etc.

  8. no, well maybe.

when dogs get abut 1 year old they follow by their rules becuase they think they know the world by then.

you can try, but try to take it easy, if you start controlling her right away she thinks she has done something bad and thinks her owners hate her now.

    hope this helped!

p.s nice picture, those dogs are sooo cute
