Currently its like a rose bush sitting at the base of my pergola and I would really like it to climb upwards instead of outwards! Any tips would be great as its a fabulous bloom this year but I would really like it climbing next year.

  1. roses dont have twining tendrils or hold-fasts to stick to a support, so you have to train them up the post by tying them with something soft and stretchy, like the legs from panty hose or buy some ties that are specifically for tying up plants....when they reach the top of the pergola, if they're ever that tall, then they'll be more able to support their own bulk, but you'll still need some sort of ties to keep them attached during storms.... when it puts out a long cane that will be your starter up the post.... then you'll need to get info on pruning the rose , as most ramblers I know of only bloom on new wood, so old canes are removed in favor of the newer ones for next season.... read here to get info...
