I have a whole bunch of these tapes, 35mm. And I want to cut them in Final cut. I don't know how to get them on there. they are all analog 35 mm. So there is no usb or fire wire cable that I can connect to my camera. What do I do? thanks guys.

  1. They need to be digitized in order to edit them in FCP. You could use a media converter or a digital HI-8 camcorder. You'd need a 4-6 pin firewire cable if you choose to use a digital HI-8 camcorder.

Here's an example of a media converter you can use.

  2. Other than a capture card, such as my Matrox RT2500, you could try a device such as a Dazzle.  The capture card comes with a dongle (connector) which accepts composite inputs.  I believe the Dazzle does the same thing.

I'm not familiar with Mac products, so can't be sure these will be compatible with your system.  What I can tell you is that persistence on your part will result in lasting memories.  Good luck!
