How do I transfer files from my DVR to an external hard drive?

I have several shows on my DVR that i would like to transfer to my external Hard drive, but have NO idea how to do it.

My cable is still hooked up and running.

  1. hook up the external HDD via usb to the dvr, change the settings in the main menu for which device and locatino you actually want the shows to be stored
