I have a canon DC230 camcorder, and I would like to transfer the files off my camcorder onto my computer. My camcorder uses mini DVD-RW discs.. when I first pop in the disc into my camcorder, it gives me two options as to which format to save the pictures as (honestly, I can't remember..).

Anyways, when I connect my camcorder to the computer using my USB cord, I'm not sure where I can find the files. (My Computer/ .. ? ) And can I transfer the files into Sony Vegas 7.0?

  1. DVD cams aren't really made to send video to a PC that is compatable with nonlinear editing software like Vegas or Premeire. The DVD specification requires the video to be converted to a format encoded for DVD players.

Unless your camcorder came with it's own proprietary editing software, you might be able to see the files from your PC, but won't be able to edit without getting a third party ripping software that'll convert the MPEG to AVI. I've tested a couple of rippers, and got less then favorable results.
