I have a large collection of old VHS home movies I made and had heard there is an add on to the PC I can purchase to play the tape and transfer this information.

Does anyone know what this is and where I can buy one? I know the have VHS to DVD converters, but I really want them on my PC in one step.

Thank you!

  1. It's all about the connections, and Radio Shack has the market on that stuff.  You can get it in other places, but you're going to get robbed on the cords.

  2. if your near to a pc world, have a look at dvdxpress which is an interface between your vcr and comp, another device is called 'dazzle',which does same job, also if your in uk try www.qvc.co.uk for these on their website, another way is a vcr/dvd recorder combi.hope this helps.

  3. You need an analog-to-digital converter, and a program to accept the information. The converter box (a good one is the Canopus DVC-110) has RCA inputs (The yellow, red, and white ports on your VCR) and a firewire output. The box converts your analog VCR signal to a DV signal, recognized by most popular digital editing programs on a computer. You just hook the VCR to the box, and the box to your computer. Specific direction will vary depending on your computer program (Adobe Premier, Windows Movie Maker, iMovie, Final Cut Pro, etc). So you need 1) converter box, 2) firewire input on your computer, 3) editing software. Good luck!
