How do I transfer songs from a CD to a computer file?

okay so i have an account on mobile17.com and i want to crop my songs and make them ringtones. but it said that you need itunes or a cd to get your songs from. then when i clicked browse then music(the file) nothing was there. so does anyone have any ideas on how to get cd songs into the music file.

Rip the songs from the audio CD to .mp3 format using windows media player. The files should now be seen.
