Question:

How do I transfer video from a cannon ZR200 camcorder to my computer?

When I got to plug it in to the computer with a transfer cable nothing happens, the computer doesn't even recognize something is plugged into it.

Yes the computer is fine and other things work in the USB slot, but I need to know why my camcorder isn't working and how to connect it for the computer to recognize it.

  1. Don't use USB. Use the DV port on the camcorder and a firewire cable. USB won't work (you already know this).

No, Canon did not include a firewire cable in the box.

Installing a firewire port on your computer is cheap and easy (if you have an available PCI slot oin the desktop or PCMCIA slot in a laptop).

Firewire, IEEE1394 and i.Link are all the same thing. Most common firewire cable is 4-pin (camera) to 6-pin (computer).

Apple Macintosh computers have had firewire 400 ports for many years.
