How do I transfer video from a hard drive if it doesn't open in My Computer?

I have a Hard Drive Disk Sony Camcorder and I want to get videos off of it. I tried to open it from My Computer but it freezes, then says it needs to be formatted.

1. What is that?

2. How can I get the videos out from it?

It seems you have an AVCHD camcorder which are very easy to use but are giving most users serious problems depending upon their computer system.

Your camcorder came with software that you will need to use.  You can also try transporting the videos from the HDD to a memory stick and then placing the memory stick into a memory card reader attached to your computer.  Your owners manual will explain this ability and how to do it.

If the software on the disc does not help or you can not transfer the files from HDD to memory stick on the camcorder, you will need to take the camcorder back and get a miniDV camcorder or discuss the issue with Sony.
