I have a Sony HDD DCR-SR42. I recorded a video and saved it to the computer. Now I need to put the video back on the camcorder and learned it is not as easy as copying the file and pasting to the camcorder's folder when connected via USB. Below is the generic response I received from Sony. Any Suggestions???

"To transfer video from a computer back to the camcorder, the computer must have video software installed that is capable of exporting video and the camcorder must be capable of receiving a video input signal. Since the process to export video varies by software, it may be necessary to consult the help files in the software or contact the manufacturer of the software for assistance."

  1. the good news is, the hard drive in the camcorder can be used as a generic mass storage device. the bad news is the camera needs an odd-ball proprietary file format to be able to play video from a file. once you use Sony software to convert the camcorder file into one that the computer can recognize as video, there is no way to re-encode the computer file so it can be read by the camera.
