I am trying to figure out a way of transmitting large files to & from my parents. I want to see HD video of my nephew and I want to be able to send video to them. I have heard of VPNs, FTP servers, PPTP, and more. I am a little confused. Nothing has to be secure. I have a static IP. They do not. Please help! :)

  1. You could use Apache (link) to set your own computer up to download the files from.  To make things easier you can just have http://<your Ip address> as the web address and set up a basic homepage with links to the files.

  2. you could use Yahoo Briefcase, or something similar.

  3. How large are the files you wish to send? Most free email accounts such as Y!Mail and Windows LiveMail will allow you to attach files up to 10 or 20mb in size. If they're larger(as they are likely to be if they're video files) you could upload them free to a filehosting site such as Megaupload or Rapidshare.

You can upload files of up to 500MB each with Megaupload and up to 1Gb each with Rapidshare.

You'll be given a separate link by these sites for each file you upload and you then pass these links to your parents so that they can download the files directly from the hosting servers.
