  1. Train is the best and quickest way. Average travel time from Alicante to Madrid is 3 1/2 hours. Alicante's main train station is located directly in the center of the city. All major spanish cities Madrid, Seville, Barcelona have various daily connections. In the future (approx. 2007) a high-speed train connection between Madrid - Valencia - Alicante train station is planned. The Alicante Train Station Web Site: www.renfe.es


  2. I recently returned from a lovely trip around Spain. While I had originally planned on taking trains, I ended up taking buses. It's cheaper (especially if you have an under 26 card), fairly comfortable (they stop at rest stops where you can get food and drinks), and you get to see the lovely countryside out your window. Also, most buses drop you off closer to the center of town than trains from what I noticed.
