Question:

How do I treat fin rot?

I think 2 of my fish (1 cory cat, 1 male dwarf gourami) have fin rot. It appears that they just got it so it isn't too bad. They are new and in my fish tank. I was wondering if it was ok to treat the entire tank, and if so with what (any suggestions on brand etc.)? I was also wondering if they don't even have fin rot which I suspect they do, would it be harmful to treat them for it anyway? Thanks.

  1. im not an expert but i would say go to a pet shop (possibly the one you got them form) tell them what you think, or what symptoms the fish have, ask them what they think would be the best treatment.

only thing i would say is it probably would be best to treat the whole tank just in case.

  2. Maracyn 2 works for finrot and is available in most pet stores.  It's not a great idea to treat a whole tank if they don't need it but sometimes there are no other choices.  It's always a good idea to have some kind of quarantine tank for new fish.  Keep them in there for a couple weeks before adding them to your main tank to avoid the spread of disease.
