How do I trim a bird's nails?

I have a bird and its nails have grown long. I'd like to trim them but don't know if they have a quick like a dog's nails do. Do I have to cut them little by little over time or can I just trim them all at once?

they sell perches (depending on ur bird) for birds that sorta feel like sand paper so wen they walk or sit on them, their nails get filed. these perches also work to trim beaks, too.

Yes birds have a quick like dogs.You can trim just a little bit of your birds nail so it's not sharp.
