How do I troubleshoot the humming sound that is coming from my new home theater speakers?

I bought a new home theater system which includes a Sony TV, Pioneer HDMI receiver & Klipsch speakers. I am detecting a humming sound from the speakers. The sound is consistent & doesn't change as volume is increased or decreased. The humming sound will go away if the receiver is muted or if I unplug my television and desktop from the receiver.

Let's make an assumption that the humming isn't caused by my speaker wires or electrical cords from my devices. If this problem is due to imcompatibilty devices such as my Pioneer receiver or desktop or old wiring in my house, how can I troubleshoot this problem.

I have never had any problems with my desktop speakers when I connect it to the desktop. Will the humming go away if I try another receiver or buy speakers that have its own power source. Or will it go away if I plug the receiver into a seperate power source from other devices. If I have to fix the electrical wiring, how do I pin point the source & how much will it cost to fix.

  1. I would first check to make sure the speakers are hooked up to the right connector in the back of the receiver.  Ex. make sure the + is hooked up too the positive and the negative to the negative.  if it isn't this then i would get a great power strip from monster.

  2. Check your ground into the house. Also a good power strip will help

  3. if you can afford it try a line conditoner like a monster power or a tripp lite check partsexpress.com
