How do I turn ON Closed Captioning.

I would like to be able to turn ON closed captioning. I have a Samsung Model code LN37A550P3FXZA Version AA01. I dunno how else to describe it since I really don't know anything else about it. I hit the CC button, but the Closed Captioning didn't go on, and I went to the menu and I found the caption option, but when I go to highlight the option, it skips over it. What do I do?
