Currently they are green & growing, but I dont know what the next step is. I would like to turn them into birdhouses (they are birdhouse gords) Do I wait for the vine to die before I pick them? How & where is the best place to dry them out? (cool dark, or hot sun) How long does it take?

Any help is appreciated.

  1. Nothing could be easier. First though, it helps to have the right type of gourd. The ones you want are called "Bird house" gourds. Just cut them off at the stem, I like to hang mine in my garage, keep them dry, warm and out of the sun. If you live in a really humid area, you may have to keep them inside.  It will take all winter before they are dry enough to use as a bird house. Paint or varnish them on the outside before hanging outdoors. Good luck
