How do I turn off the Nike+ Sportband?

Is it supposed to be on all the time and be used like a watch or is there a way to turn it off?

It's on all the time, but only recording your run when you hit the button to record. Otherwise it's on all the time to show the time of day, your last run data, weekly miles, and total cumulative miles. Pretty much just like a regular watch.
