How do I unatached the garbage disposal from underneath the sink?

I had noticed for the past couple of days that my InSinkErator Badger® food waste disposer was giving me problems....I usually cook and had no problems getting rid of the potatoes peelings through the sink since it was not that many......Just yesterday I totally gave out my sink got plugged...I'm not sure if there is any way I could get it unclogged before calling the landlord?...........I am also going to be trying DRANO....ButI'mm not sure which one is the best kind to use?....Would that be the thick kind of liquid or jut the normal stuff

on the bottom of the disposer is an opening where you can insert an allen wrench to move the grinder motor and clear the clog.Dont put Drano in the disposer.

Yep..use the small allen wrench in the bottom of the disposal. If you don't have one....use the end of a broom handle from the the top. Insert it in there and try to move the inside grinder till it is free. You can even try using a plunger with lots of water in the sink. The plunger will help loosen up some of the junk stuck around the sides.

Plumbers love people that use the disposal for food waste....keeps them in the money....so next time throw those potato peels in the trash.

disconnecting the disposal is not going to unstop your sink, if water still in sink, use plunger to unstop if double sink.  If no water standing in sink, add enough to cover bottom of plunger. If double sink and both sides are clogged, plunge side w/out disposal. A Plunger will unstop drain to the vent. If stopped up past there, you will need a snake. If disposal doesn't work, try reset button on bottom of unit, it's 1" in from data plate, if it hums, use 1/4" allen wrench to unjam (center hole on bottom of unit, work back and forth till loose, have fun with it, I always do.
