How do I unblock my washbasin without the shop bought products please?

you will need a small plunger and a free hand...cover the overflow holes on the sink...you could try duct tape with someone holding it in place, then plunge the sink drain ...that should unstop it. I would be more concerned as to why a sink would clog up...sounds as if the trap has been in place for a very long time...perhaps it is time to replace the trap???? IF you do not cover the sink overflow holes, all the plunging in the world will not help, for the pressure will come out the overflow holes, not go down the drain. Do NOT use commercial drain cleaners, they will corrode the sink drain metal and make it dull. Goldwing

Try a cup of soda and a cup of vinegar, followed by a small pot ot very hot water and plunge.

try removing and cleaning the trap,,,the "J" shaped pipe underneath the basin
