How do I uninstall an anti-virus program?

I used to have avast, and today I installed Avira, but all the options were for avast were to transfer it to the recycle bin...when i search avast through my files and folders, it won't even let me delete the extra files...

You don't seem to have uninstalled Avast correctly. Normally, you should ALWAYS uninstall software using the Add / Remove Programs in the Control Panel.

Try to undelete the Avast files in the Recycle Bin then try to uninstall as stated above. If that doesn't work, a cleaner solution would be to reinstall Avast (same version as before) and then to uninstall it. This will make sure that all files are removed properly. You shouldn't have to uninstall Avira, the two should be able to cohabitate for a short while.

I am not sure if you want to get rid of avast or avira?

doesnt matter.

Neither of them are that hard to remove.

If it is avira you want to uninstal go to start/control panel/add remove progrograms. find avira and select uninstal.

reboot your computer. go to the following website:

look about half way down the list,download Avira Registry cleaner.

UnZip it ,run the exec,and reboot.

Avast uninstals the same way,only after removing it from Add/Remove programs,go to this website:

http://www.avast.com/eng/avast-uninstall...

and download aswClear.exe.

run it,and reboot.

that should remove them pretty well.

If you have instaled one anti-virus while there are still big chunks of the first one still on the system,it is a good idea to clean up after the first on,then uninstal the second,and reinstal clean.

If you want to you can download a program called CCleaner to clean up some of the stuff left behind.

Its free.
