How do I unlock a cell phone to use with other carrier?

I was recently given a verizon cell phone, I lost my cell phone and have at&t but am under contract for another year. What do I have to do to be able to use this phone for at&t??

  1. I doubt it will work. You have to call verizon and tell them you need an unlock code. I have AT&T and I have extra phones. I was going to give one to a friend who has Alltel and lost her phone. I was told that the only two carriers that are compatible are T-Mobile and At&t because they both use gsm network while the other carriers don't. But, give it a whirl and see if it works out.

    I have a Blackjack w/ At&t that I don't use since I got my Blackberry...want it? :-)

  4. Verizon phones don't use sim cards. So you won't be able to use it for AT&T.  CDMA networks are different and Verizon phones are made quite differently than anyone else's.  Sorry.
