How do I unlock my taskbar after clicking adjust system to best performance?

I clicked adjust system to best performance than my taskbar greyed out and now I cant click anything. I cant click anything!! How do I make my PC back to normal?

  1. You should always be able to rightclick the taskbar > lock/unlock it.

    Have you already tried to kill the explorer.exe process and restarting it?

    Fire up taskmanager by hitting ctrl+alt+del, find explorer.exe in the list of processes, end the task, then restart it by going to the File menu > New task (run) > explorer.exe


  2. Try pressing the Windows key to see if you can get your Programs menu to display. If so, then select Programs/Accessories/System Tools/System Restore and choose a restore point prior to when you made your changes.

    If that doesn't work, try the Windows key and the Pause/Break keys simultaneously. This should open the System Properties window, where you can use Advanced Settings to reset the "adjust system to best performance" to something else. Don't forget to press the Apply button. You should probably still do a system restore after that.
