How do I update NHL 08?

I wanna update NHL 08 for PC so I went to EA Sports NHL 08 Homepage and downloaded the patch but it didn't do anything to my game. On the page it said when installing, you must direct the patch to install in the NHL 08 directory. What does that mean?
