How do I upload a video from a Sony camcorder to my computer?

the camcorder is a digital sony handycam that i bought about 4 years ago(it also takes still photos). i have the usb cable that came with it and when i tried uploading it to my computer i think it only directed the memory stick and it copied all the photos and only 8 seconds of the video. obviously i want the whole video to be copied to my computer. it doesn't seem to detect the tape and only the memory stick.

i have the software that lets u stream the camcorder videos on ur computer. when i plugged in the USB CABLE it said that i had to install macromedia flash to play the video. i don't have the latest version of flash. is there another way i can upload the video to my computer? do i have to buy any other accessories? please answer ASAP. thanks!

  1. The best way would be to check your camera to see if it as a fire wire port or IEEE34 port and if your camera as that port. then you can capture on your computer. What model camera do you have? what type of computer do you have

  2. Chances are, you'll need FireWire (IEEE 1394).  If the Sony Handycam is one of the Handycams that uses MiniDV tapes, you'll definitely need FireWire.  If your computer doesn't have a FireWire port, you'll need to get FireWire installed (not sure how much that'll cost).  Also, most camcorders don't even come with a FireWire cable when they need them so you'll have to buy one--probably about $20...maybe less, maybe more.

  3. Try plugging it in. What brand is you computer/laptop? Are you using windows vista? If you are using windows vista then you have to update your system. My computer won't work with my web cam( camcorder) so I did a little research. Hope this helps!
