How do I upload a video from my computer to my Canon XH-A1. Is, going through a monitor the only way?

I am trying to upload a DVD that was recorded 10 years ago in SD I guess. I want to digitize it by uploading to my camcorder from my computer and then downloading it back to my computer in Windows Movie Maker so that I can perform some editing work. How do I upload the information to my cancorder, by DVD Player or will I have to connect my camcorder and use the VCR setting to record the information?

  1. When I want the video to go back out to the camera's miniDV tape, I bring the video into iMovie or FinalCut and export the video out to the camcorder.

I do this regularly with my Sony HDR-HC1, and I have done it with a Panasonic DVX100B, Sony HVR-V1U and Canon Elura 60... I see no reason why the XHA1 would behave any differently.

I don't understand what you mean by "going through the monitor".
