How do I upload pictures from my camera onto my computer?

I have a Canon PowerShot SD1000, and the program to upload the pictures is ZoomBrowser EX. I have uploaded pictures earlier this year, but no nothing works. When I click connect to camera or acquire images from memory card nothing happens. I plugged in the memory card to my printer, but the screen on the printer said "Memory Card problem". But nothing worked for a different memory card as well.

How about your usb cable that connects the camera to the computer?

That is how I always get my photos to my computer with no problems.
