How do I use American straighteners in uk, do I need voltage converter and is this safe with straighteners?

  1. Check your technical manual for operation voltage.

    If it says 110-230V 50-60 Hz you are good to go.

    If it says 110V/60Hz you will need a voltage transformer for at least the watts of your appliance. It would not be safe to operate a 90 watt straightener with a 50 watt transformer. It may melt and may damage the iron, too if 230 volts get through untransformed.

    In any case you will need a plug adapter for the UK

    Considering the cost and the additional weight carried, it may be easier to buy a cheap straightener operating on 230V/50Hz with the UK plug overseas.

  2. You will need a converter. If the power capability of the converter is enough to take the load of the appliance, then yes, it will be safe with appliance.

  3. Yes you will need a voltage (and hertz) converter. Yes It is safe. B/c most converters have built-in fuses.
