Question:

How do I use a DECT phone with two exchange/land lines?

I have two land lines and each has a DECT (Siemens S455) base station on, and each base station has two DECT handsets. I can register the handsets to both base stations, but can not find out how to set up the handsets so that I can answer incoming calls from either base station on all the four handsets. It appears that you need to tell each handset which base station it should currently use and then it can only handle incoming or outgoing calls on that base station and ignores the other one. The process of changing the current base station takes dozens of key presses so is totally impractical to switch base stations manually to accept a call. There must be a way of setting the system up to do this automatically or more simply - can anyone suggest how - or another DECT system that can do what I want. Thanks

  1. What your seeing is that each phone can only be registered with one base station at a time.

Right now there is only two DECT base stations that can do multiple lines,  but I expect them to become more popular in the future.  One of those is by a company I won't recommend and the other comes from a company that I really like (Panasonic) but they seemed to have quit making it.  I'm not sure if there was a production issue or if they just didn't sell or what.  Its no longer listed on their website.
