How do I use a prepaid phone card that wants me to dial an 888 number on a phone a that blocks these numbers?

I have an AT&T Prepaid Phone Card where the first step says "1. To place a call within the U.S., dial 1888 x*x XXXX." My phone then says I cannot make these type of calls.

Unless you are a private companies telephone system, you can not be restricted from dialing 800, 888, 877, 866 or the soon to be used 855 telephone area codes.  866 and 888 are the widest used (800) number calls (since they ran out of 800 area code numbers).

But lets look at the dialing.  You are dialing the 888 number (888-x*x-xxxx) then entering either the pin code then the number you wish to dial or vice versa, correct?  You can't just dial 888 snd a seven digit number you want to call for free.

Hi,

"your phone" are you at work - if so this may have been bared by the company. Or you maybe using a mobile phone, in this case the call should be set up but will not be free....

The only other this I can think of that would stop a freephone call going would be call barring, set to "all calls". But here in the UK, even some of these freephone calls would in fact be connected. (mainly to support services for those that need help.)
