How do I use an older version of iTunes?

I just downloaded iTunes 7.7 and now iTunes does not recognize my iPod. The iPod says "connected", and my computer's toolbar shows that the iPod is plugged in, it is only iTunes that doesn't recognize it.

It is definitely a problem with the new iTunes because I just plugged my iPod into my mom's computer (which has the older version of iTunes) and it recognizes my iPod.
