I am an american who will be flying into Instabul, Turkey. I want to ride the Euro rail from Turkey to Amsterdam. Is this possible? Does it stop in other countries? Can I get on and off, visit for a day and get back on the next day? How long will it take if I rode straight thru? Should I buy a certain pass or a oneway ticket? I have no clue, cause I've never been there and the rail website is confusing me. I plan to be in Europe for 7 days and want to see the most I can when I get there in September 2008.

  1. Sorry to disappoint you, but there is no successor of the legendary "Oriental Express" going straight from Instanbul to London or Amsterdam.

You can use the train but must change at least three times, regularly in Beograd (Serbia), Vienna (Austria) and Frankfurt (Germany). The straight thru travel time ranges between 48 and 50 hours.

The trains have several stops in Bulgaria, Serbia, Hungary, Austria, and Germany.
