How do I use tty for the deaf?

I know this is a stupid question but I am new to tty. Do I need regular analog phone service? I have always used sorenson vrs in the past never tty. I have a new ultratec superprint 4425 tty machine. Is that a good tty machine?

  1. TTY or teletype, is a relay service. The hearing caller dials into the service, an operator answer and the caller gives the destination phone number. The operator calls the remote TTY terminal and a two way communication is made between the hearing impaired and the TTY operator. The operator relays via voice what the terminal prints out.

    You can also use TTY between terminals, just like modem to modem or fax to fax. Terminal 1 dials terminal 2 and a link is made.

    As far as good  vs bad... I do not know, my experiance is with Teletype machine Model 28, Model 33, Model 35, Model 40 and Model 43's...
