How do I visit my marine in fort leonard wood missouri?

My honey is going to be attending a motor transport school in Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri next month (after he finishes his month of Marine Combat Training at Camp Pendleton). I need some more information. Are marines usually allowed to do their own thing on the weekends there? Would he be able to stay with me in a hotel? If anyone knows anything about the training or process or area please let me know :) (is there anything fun near there, good places to eat/go out, etc?)

You should fly into St. Louis.  There is not alot out there.  Most of the restaurants are right off the highway near Walmart.  If you are married and will have your ID, you should try to get a room at the base lodge.  If not, there are hotels close to the gate.  The training all depends.  My husband was in a different training group at Ft. LW and only had a few weekends off while he was there.  They usually have a graduation towards the end of their training that you might want to catch.

Wait til he is on leave or at a more enjoyable place. I know guy's that would travel to a combat zone before going back there.

It's on I44 between Springfield and St Louis, more than 90 minutes to either. That means Southwest ain't going there. I once paid $1200 for a round trip from Denver to Springfield (1998 I think). My boss left me a voice mail asking if they sat us in gold seats when he saw that weeks expense sheet. The week before I went to Honolulu from SF for $350. They will nail you to the cross when going to out of the way places.
